Oh what an ordeal to make...but boy were they worth information technology. I think I must take done something wrong in the frying process (I've never really fried anything earlier). I used a big sauce pot, filled it with oil and heated the oil to the temp the directions told. Just matter is when I fried my breadstuff the whole house filled with smoke. Past the time I fried my last piece my fire warning was going off, so my security organization went off, then the fire department came, and then all the neighbors came out to see what was going on...and I'thousand but similar 'what...I'm simply making fry bread...'. After the smoke cleared nosotros sat down at the dinner table and enjoyed a wonderful and yummy meal of fry bread tacos. Everyone LOVED them. This review is for the fry bread portion: Oh my this recipe is soooo skilful! This tastes like the "chalupa bread" from Taco Bell just BETTER!! Taco's never tasted then skillful! No more difficult shell or flour tortillas for our family. Once yous try these y'all volition never go back. They are easy, tasty and then chewy (I could continue & on!). I made these 2 days ago and used the breadstuff like regular tacos(they fold in half nicely afterwards they absurd)and filled with regular taco meat and toppings. Well, my husband already asked me when I was going to make them again! So nosotros are having then again tomorrow! P.S. If you have whatsoever fry bread leftover try them with ice cream (unbelievable).

HELPFUL TIPS: This makes three (using the suggested 3/4C dough) & I tin't imagine Any adult eating more than than 1 since they take upward the entire plate (equally my moving-picture show shows). AMAZING!!! I was so nervous about making this, every bit I've never made any sort of bread or tortilla, and I have simply fried like three things in my entire life. Very easy and then delicious. I made the unabridged taco, per the recipe and it was just crawly. I served my beau first while I finished frying the bread and I peeked out of the kitchen at him to become his reaction to them (I'm an insecure melt... and a dork). I was thrilled when I saw his optics widen and he got the 'wow' look on his face. :) Thank yous then much, I'll be making these ofttimes. They were fun to brand and And so expert.

I have so enjoyed reading the reviews of this recipe, specially the lady whose smoke alert went off, then her security alarm, then the fire department came... At Native American gatherings, hither on the West Coast, there will ever exist an "Indian Taco" booth, and one Indian Taco will fill up you upward, and then some! Indian tacos usually beginning with a layer of refried beans on summit of the fry bread, then a layer of crumbled basis beef, followed by the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, diced onions, and and so any topping of diced black olives, sour cream, guacamole, and picante sauce. Just set out a tabular array with all the fixings, and let your family/guests make their own, according to their likes/dislikes. I add a hint of sugar to my frybread dough, and while I'chiliad waiting for the oil to rut (seems to take forever!), I'one thousand testing it every so oftentimes by dropping a tiny ball of dough into the oil. If it sinks to the bottom and just lays in that location, your oil isn't hot enough. One time it gets hot plenty, y'all will probably need to plow it down a bit, or eventually your oil volition plough black because it tin be too hot as well. I dedicate one large, cast-iron skillet as my frybread skillet, because information technology will get messy and is really difficult to clean. This is 1 of my favorites!!! I have never tried this meat mixture, merely the bread is fantastic, think a 100% better homeade version of the taco bong chulupa, soft yet crunchy and rich. normaly I brand mesquite grilled chicken breast, chop it upward, and top with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, & a fleck of ranch. the best! I always go huge raves!!

This was skillful,but i prefer to purchase authentic Indian fry bread mix. Named"ha-pah-shu-TSE"...can be plant at virtually large grocers.Information technology'south already mixed,i only add together a bit of warm water to the mix in a glass bowl,embrace with a clammy towel and place in a warm over or a warm spot for 2 or three hours. (makes the bread lighter and fluffy).Tear the dough into 4 seperate pieces and curl them out pencil thin before deep frying. YUM!!

I was not going to review this recipe because I idea all the excellent reviews were roofing it nicely but when I read the reviews about the bread having no taste and the tacos beingness messy, I just could not resist. This is "bread" What kind of flavour are you expecting? and equally for existence too much oil, if you lot fried it correctly there in that location should exist minimum oil captivated and they are fried. As for the messy comments, all the fry bread tacos that I have always had were served on a plate with a pocketknife and fork. Greetings from South Dakota, Cheers to my Grandma I know how to make fry bread. Im Native American, raised on fry bread and yeah have made it grand times or more in my life. I found the dough (if y'all follow recipe exactly) to be likewise pasty to handle, they put too much salt in information technology (I made a double batch and only put i tsp in and the dough was waaaay to salty, couldnt imagin how it would take been with ii tsp.... Ick). They ask to put in way to much milk. The recipe I make and most Natives utilize is with powdered milk so the wetness is from warm h2o. The dough is soft, like shooting fish in a barrel to handle and only a pinch of salt and suger..... This was aught of the sort and no one would consume the fry bread. So subsequently all that I concluded up making my usual fry breadstuff that every 1 chowed and enjoyed. As for the taco function, I didnt even attempt after the failed frybread. Just we normally do one of the ii. Make simple chili and put taco toppings on tiptop or just make your favorite home made taco meat then with all ur fav. Taco toppings. Yum.

Nosotros all enjoyed the fry bread...(specially my 4 year one-time), merely I thought it was a bit besides much for tacos. My bread was actually thick and heavy despite my attempts to curl it out very thin. I made mine nigh ane/8 of an inch thick and nigh 6 inches in diameter. I got about seven out of ane batch. I did have 1 left over and then I brushed it with butter and sprinkled on some cinnamon sugar. I think I enjoyed these more than every bit a dessert rather than a "taco crush". Cheers for sharing.

This is pretty accurate. I learned to make fry bread from some Ute indian gals almost twoscore years ago. Recently had a dinner party and served this. I've been making this recipe for my kids, ever since my husband came home from a business trip to New Mexico, some nineteen years ago. He described it to me, and I pretty much took it from there. I'm reviewing the fry bread just. Bully! Piece of cake! Except for cleaning up the oil later on. =) I made the dough in 6 pieces, that was a skillful size for my taco. I used my Kitchenaid with the dough claw, let it go for 5 minutes, turned it off and let information technology sit down 5 minutes, then dropped it on a floured board to cut into six chunks.

This is awesome!! Closest matter to Taco Bell chalupas you can have at home! I didn't use the filling part of information technology. I just used ground beef with Taco Bell taco seasoning and everyone made their own with sour cream, cheese, tomato, salsa, lettuce, etc. I used about 1/2 c. dough for each and rolled it very thin with a rolling pin. I fried it in my deep fryer on one side and then kind of aptitude information technology in half when I flipped it. I did practice what a couple people suggested and add 2 t. oil to the dough. Was amazing!!!

Cracking, only non great. I was a petty skeptical that the bread would have much flavor, but I was swayed by the glowing reviews. It turned out that I was right. The bread was pretty flavorless and never got crisp on the outside. I think it would be amend used equally pizza crust, because that's what it tasted like to me. On the plus side, it was extremely filling. I divided the dough into 8 pieces instead of four and all the same, no i could eat more than one taco. It was fun to endeavor, but I don't think I would brand this recipe again.

I was looking for a ground beef recipe that I could make on short notice (today) with a tight budget and nobody would believe how easy and inexpensive this was! I didn't discover the fry bread any more difficult than any of the baking I've done, and although a fiddling messy (both preparation and eating), the results were well worth information technology! This tasted just like the Indian Taco's that I used to become when I went to the Oklahoma Land Fair. I would advise patting the dough out to i/viii inch thickness as they puff up. As far as the previous comment about the dough being hard to work with, be sure to dust the dough brawl with flour before handling and brand sure to proceed your surface dusted with flour and your easily besides as long as yous are patting out the dough. I added chopped light-green onions and tomatoes also.

This recipe was great!!! I used the exact recipe for the fry bread just for the topping I used taco meat, shredded mozzarella and cowboy caviar (corn, black beans, tomatoes, dark-green peppers, onions, cilantro, lime juice, cumin and garlic). It was wonderful!

In Oklahoma they are called "Indian Tacos". For the people that complain about the staff of life being too thick to fold into a taco. Duh, that is non how you eat them.

This was crawly. I made my own toppings just used the fry bread part of the recipe and wouldn't change anything on that part. For those that found that the dough was style to sticky what I did was add together about 2 tsp of evoo to the mix and it made a huge deviation. I had 1 fry breadstuff left over and sprinkled sugar and cinnamon and put whip foam on superlative and my kids loved information technology. I volition def brand again.

I always (as many others have) use my own meat/beans mixture (I don't use canned beans, rather make my own refried beans because the taste is only then much amend) and the toppings my family loves. Reviewing the fry breadstuff just. Made it this evening to serve with the Pork Chalupas recipe from this site. Anybody loved the fry bread (and the chalupas). My son asked if he could have the leftovers for breakfast with jelly. What leftovers?? Frying isn't my favorite thing to do but I think we will be making these a couple times a year as a special treat.

These are called indian tacos and not meant to be folded similar mexican tacos. Put the frybread on a plate then the meat sauce,cheese,lettuce and whatsoever else your petty heart desires. we e'er used diced fresh tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, black olives, sour cream. A favorite at our firm. These are a really good twist on tacos with the fry bread. YUMM-O! In Oklahoma these are known every bit Indian tacos. Very filling, a lot more so than a taco with a corn tortilla. Fry staff of life is great sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar too or served with honey (sort of a sopapilla) if y'all take whatsoever left over. *Apply bill echols' taco seasoning I recipe or "seasoning for tacos" by sue gronholz found here instead of the package mix!

I can't believe some of the reviewers compared this fry staff of life to the chalupas at Taco Bell!!! Are yous kidding me?! There is zippo that compares to the horrors establish at Taco Bell. That is an insult to the person who submitted this recipe. I found the fry bread part of the recipe to exist pretty skilful - much better than annihilation establish at the higher up mentioned fast food restaurant. Equally far as the whole taco concept - I call up you could adapt the recipe to whatever your tastes are: some like spicier taco meat, others prefer beans. Some like fresh veges, others only meat and cheese. Some like condiments such equally salsa/hot sauce, others like black olives. I made this recipe in my Bosch mixer. If you cull to do this, put the milk in outset, so add the other ingredients. My start batch tasted banal and was quite wet. I added more salt and flour and they were perfect! I loved how quickly these came together. I had leftover chili, and then I didn't use the rest of the recipe, only the fry bread was great. I made extra and tomorrow I'thou going to heat them in the oven and sprinkle them with cinnamon carbohydrate and then acme them with icecream and chocolate syrup for a get together with some friends. Thank you for the recipe!

Fry Bread Tacos are my favorite way of serving tacos. I am not a fan of taco seasoning so I go out that out. In its place I add salsa to the meat later it has been drained and cook the meat until the salsa is warm

Hot curl mixes work the same way and MUCH easier! Make according to package directions and roll out to 1/4" thickness and cutting into squares. Deep fry (one fox for the perfect puffiness is to splash a little of the grease onto the peak side as the shell floats, so flip... until golden) Piece open ane side and create a 'pita' type pocket for your taco fillings. I grew up eating these and they are a family favorite! Use butter/cinnamon/sugar on leftover shells for a dessert.

Very skilful and tasty! I divided up the dough into 8 portions so they were easier to serve and consume. I likewise omitted the beans and salsa step and only threw black beans into the meat later it was browned. It's a keeper! =)

I really only saved this recipe for the fry breadstuff recipe, as I wanted to make my own taco meat/bean mixture. I took suggestions from some of the other testers and added a tablespoon of lard to the fry bread mixture. I also kneaded this in my Kitchen Assist mixer, which speeded up the procedure. These came out perfectly and made ii large breads and three medium. Just plenty for my family. My oldest son scarfed this and asked for seconds, which surprized me. Really great dinner. I'll for sure make this fry bread often. Worth the work put into information technology.

Indian Tacos are a popular "fair" food in Oklahoma. Since moving to Texas, I haven't been able to get my set up. This recipe was perfect. I made the fry breadstuff and topped with homemade chili, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and sour cream. Thanks for the yummy recipe!

This recipe is so like shooting fish in a barrel, and it is definitely a nice change from taco shells and tortillas. The suggestion to enjoy the leftover frybread with cinnamon sugar and honey is great! Similar a sopapilla simply more than bready. My advice is to actually roll these out sparse - they puff up dainty and thick! I didn't take a thermometer then I just tested the heat with bits of dough. When the bit of dough rose up right away I turned my heat down 1 notch and started frying. Nosotros love, love, love this recipe. We are a 40 year old mexican man, a 31 yr old irish adult female, a 10 year one-time boy, seven year old daughter, and 1 1/2 year sometime boy. Great for anybody!!

This fry bread is absolutely crawly!!! I made this for my fellow and my brother and sister-in-police force and five kids aged ii through fifteen and everyone loved it! I would suggest serving the bread with all of your favorite taco toppings, not just what is called for. One notation though, my fry bread didn't stay in the cup similar shape, they all just puffed up into mini loaves when fried. Withal delicious though!!

Didn't make the meat mixture every bit I am a vegetarian. I just used ii cans of black beans + shredded zucchini and green onions and added some spices in. I also fabricated guacamole. The bread itself was pretty proficient, though I think the recipe called for as well much salt. I would get every bit far as using half of the table salt chosen for. Overall this recipe is a overnice care for but not something I would eat regularly.

This is for the fry bread only , here in the desert southwest taco flavour is never used by the native Americans! information technology came out so practiced my husband said it came out so close to his mom'south(she was full blooded) he was proud of me!The only thing I did different was increased the dough resting fourth dimension of 1 hour because his mom did!

I make these for my family every bit a special treat due to the deep frying of the dough. We call these Indian tacos and they make a huge striking at pow-wows. Like others I'm reviewing the fry breadstuff (used own taco recipe **Update** Used Tasty Lentil Tacos from this site - PERFECT together!). It's crawly, and should exist featured for how to stretch a dollar - I was able to cut the amt of meat for our family unit of v in half! (At present, with lentil tacos, NO meat!) Woohoo, bully, TASTY, bargain food! This will exist a go-to in our business firm for sure. Also, I double the recipe & the leftovers don't stay leftover for long - these are GREAT with honey as dessert or warmed in the microwave for a 2d for breakfast.

Yummy! I was in the mood for Indian Flatbread tacos, like I get at the off-white. I fabricated the fry taco bread and added my own mix of seasoned ground beefiness and diced potatoes. Information technology was delicious topped with with cheese, sour cream and chopped tomatoes.

What a great new take on the average Taco. I really liked this. The fry bread reminded me of peroshki'south and I love those. Exist careful while shaping the dough and brand them as flat every bit possible. When you fry them they shrink up and puff upwards alot.

My family unit actually enjoyed this recipe. I put all of the breadstuff ingredients in my breadstuff car and permit it do all the work. I did add about 1/ii loving cup extra flour considering the dough was to soft to work with. Thank you for the great recipe.

I was very skeptical at first site of the bread while cooking, it looked like a hockey puck...just it did end upward being very tender and light. (My hubby commented that we need to have these more often!) I ended up using an additional 1/4 cup flour for a squeamish scroll out consistency and poked a small whole right in the center with my finger to allow them to cook without the puff. I savour a salt taste simply these accept a very stiff saltiness, I volition probably cutting dorsum on it the next time.

Oh my! I made this staff of life as a quick luncheon to use upwardly some leftovers in the fridge with my kids. Easy and YUMMY!! I doubled the recipe and and then left some dough raw to see how much I really needed. Needless to say I had to get back and finish cooking the residual! Information technology was bully for lunch AND for dessert with whipped cream and fruit! THUMB'S Upwards!!

I have never made fry bread, and my family was skeptical (my husband had tortillas on manus for an emergency fix) but these turned out to be yummy. I did not utilise the entire recipe, just the fry bread with regular taco ingredients. I was scared that they were non going to be done considering of how fast they turned golden, but they turned out perfect. Circumspection though: Very sticky when trying to shape them. Thank you for a smashing recipe!

Manner easier than I idea it was going to be! I tried frying it without pressing down the middle first and it came out like a puffy little doughnut (I coated it in butter and sprinkled with carbohydrate...delicious). When I fried them for dinner I depressed the center and made them a little larger to hold more than toppings.

I ran out of my commercial fry bread mix and needed more than, so I used the bread portion of this recipe for a quick backup. Puts together in a flash and was amend tasting than the commercial mix. I will non be buying the mix again. We all have our preferred toppings, then I but cut everything up and let everyone top their own taco.

I only gave this a 3 star rating as I love the fry staff of life itself but inverse the topping completely. I made my own refried beans for topping by using 1 tin can of pinto beans drained and rinsed, and so put i/iv loving cup of olive oil into a sauce pan and heating over med estrus then adding the pinto beans, 1 tbsp chilli powder, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp garlic powder and s/p to taste. Stir and brew until heated through. Likewise, I used spicy shredded beef instead of ground beef. Use a i lb chuck roast cut into cubes, 1 modest onion finely chopped, three garlic cloves peeled and grated, 2 tbsp chilli powder, 2 tsp ground cumin, 3 tbsp red wine vinegar, 1 cup beefiness broth and s/p to taste. In a slow cooker combine all ingredients, add beef stir well to coat, cover and melt for iv hours. Remove the beef shred and render to the pot for another hour. Then top the fry breadstuff with edible bean mixture, shredded beef, shredded cheese, lettuce, salsa and sour cream. Delicious, thinking about list this as fry bread number iii! Thank you for sharing the fry staff of life recipe, I would definitely make them again.

These were good. The kids loved them!! Didn't accept taco seasoning so I used my Pampered Chef Southwest Seasoning and other spices. I added a can of stewed tomatoes to the beef and also the beans to salvage a step. Nosotros didn't take picante and so I used salsa. Spiced this recipe up too! The only disappointing thing I constitute is that the fry bread was tough and chewy. Will try again and if they don't plow out low-cal and puffy volition try another bread recipe for them.

OMG---this were Swell!!!! I loved them so much, so much better than store bought tortillas (how we usually eat tacos). My married man fabricated the taco and beans mixture, so we didn't exactly follow the recipe for the meat, but I did apply the fry bread instructions/recipe. Had this for Sunday lunch with the inlaws and they raved! Cheers so much!

Fry Bread= Absolutely Astonishing!!!!! I made viii decent size breads... i cant believe how like shooting fish in a barrel the dough was to make!!!! The Topping i changed to our liking. And i fabricated 2 of the fry breads with cinnamon and carbohydrate topped with ice cream!!!! Sooooooooo goood!!!

We honey Indian Fry breadstuff. Nosotros ordinarily make it once or twice a twelvemonth. We have always just used a white bread dough recipe. This one is sooooo much meliorate! These were a different twist on regular taco'southward for sure. I rated this recipe only three stars because I found the "fry bread" to be too much for ane serving. I may make this dish once more, only will use may ane/2 cup portions of dough for each person.

I merely used this for the fry breadstuff recipe..information technology was awesome..ande EASY!! I topped half of them with barbequed pork and coleslaw, and then did the others with powdered sugar and cinnamon--delicious, thanks for such a great recipe. The only thing I had to do was keep adding flour, because the dough was very viscid, but that is probably considering it is so boiling here in Florida.

These were just "OK" for me. A slight thwarting, but non terrible either. Having said this, I practice recollect practise makes perfect. I have never been a pro at deep frying or baking, two things that certainly tin can't hurt to be good at when attempting this recipe. My hubs and I concur that tostadas serve the aforementioned purpose and are just as practiced as these - perchance fifty-fifty better. I'd be willing to requite these another try, but would only practice then if I had enough of time to ensure a better upshot. Other than mixing my beans and meat together and adding a LOT more than flour to my dough (it was as well gluey to handle otherwise), I fabricated no changes. I got exactly 4 tostada-sized fry breads out of this recipe. My hubs and I ate all of them, so unfortunately I had none left to sprinkle with cinnamon sugar for dessert. :( Depending on your appetite, ane of these might fill you upwardly, only we were satisfied (and full!) with 2 each. Garnished with shredded lettuce, chopped tomato & greenish onion, Mexican-blend cheese & guacamole, these were keen at all. Chips, salsa and Coronas completed our casual meal. I don't know almost the rest of the recipe, but this fry bread was incredible. Super like shooting fish in a barrel to brand and tasty! I suggest making tehm a chip thinner that stated. Wonderful! Cheers for sharing. PS. I'thou going to brand these with cinnamon and saccharide next.

Really, really good! I made the fry staff of life only and we topped information technology like a taco. The bread is then tender and low-cal. Information technology was so skillful, I near wish I hadn't made information technology considering I'll desire to have this more than I should! I actually concluded up having to add nearly 1/two loving cup more than flour and let mine rest while I was making the toppings which turned out to me about twenty minutes. Dinner was perfect!

These are really skillful. We go these at a local Pow-wow and these taste quite a fleck like the ones served by Native Americans. The meat isn't quite right...but still actually practiced!

I made these for New Years Day luncheon. Anybody liked them. I rolled some of the dough in between parchment paper and it worked bang-up. The others I rolled in between waxed newspaper and that didn't work then nifty! They stuck and were very hard to get off.

The fry bread was really skillful - especially with cinnamon and sugar as a dessert. I institute it very piece of cake to piece of work with and made simply the perfect amount for a family dinner for 2 adults and 3 immature children (five-9). I will definitely exist making some home made doughnuts out of this in the almost future. The topping was a lilliputian bland, but can easily be inverse to suit your family unit'due south tastes. I cheat and utilize frozen staff of life dough! Family unit loves loves loves FB Tacos - sometimes called Ufta Tacos, Indian Tacos. Leftover fry bread, if there are whatever, dip in carbohydrate and enjoy! Hubby adds butter to his plus the carbohydrate. Favorite manner to have tacos!
